Beginner Trails in Florianópolis
Where to Start?
July 6, 2026
If you think hiking means endless uphill climbs and regretting your life choices halfway through… hold on! Floripa is also the perfect place for beginners who want to start hiking without suffering, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and easy, peaceful paths.
The Island of Magic has short, well-marked, and accessible trails, ideal for those taking their first steps into the world of trekking. Here I’ve selected some of the best beginner-friendly trails, considering difficulty, distance, shade, and accessibility. Let’s go!
Gravatá Trail
The Gravatá Trail is perfect for those who want to start off on the right foot!
- Short distance (about 1.5 km one way)
- Average duration of 30 to 40 minutes (one way)
- Gentle and very manageable climbs
The trail begins near Praia Mole and already offers stunning ocean views along the way. It’s not completely flat, but the short uphill sections are quick and not intimidating. At the end, you arrive at the small and charming Gravatá Beach, more secluded and perfect for relaxing before heading back.
Naufragados Beach Trail
The Naufragados Beach Trail is a step up, but still very beginner-friendly.
- Approximately 2.5 km one way (not including the lighthouse)
- Gentle climbs (ideal for those starting to explore longer trails)
- Well-marked path
Although slightly longer, it is not difficult. The trail is shaded, which is great for warmer days, and the destination is absolutely worth it: one of the most secluded and beautiful beaches in the southern part of the island. Once there, you can even extend the hike to the lighthouse and explore the historical ruins in the area.
Natural Pools Trail of Barra da Lagoa
If the idea is to start with something almost effortless, the Natural Pools Trail of Barra da Lagoa is the perfect choice:
- Only 15 to 20 minutes (one way)
- Simple and accessible terrain
- Suitable for almost all ages
At the end, you’ll find natural pools formed between the rocks, with generally calm and crystal-clear water. The pools themselves are shallow, but nearby there is a deeper stretch of the sea, often used for diving and jumping from the rocks, always assessing safety first.
Costa da Lagoa Trail
The Costa da Lagoa Trail is the kind of option for those who want to walk without rushing, enjoying the journey more than the challenge.
- Mostly flat route
- Long shaded sections
- Ideal for a light walk, even though it is relatively long (approximately 6 km)
You can start either from Ratones or from Canto dos Araçás, and the path passes by ruins of abandoned mills and lakeside restaurants. In other words, you can turn the hike into a historical and gastronomic experience. And the best part for beginners? You can return by boat. Yes. Got tired? Just take a boat from the public pier (prices vary slightly depending on the time) and return to the center of Lagoa da Conceição by water, enjoying the scenery even more. Zero suffering.
Final Tips for Beginners!
Before heading out on the trail, here are some basic tips that make all the difference:
- Wear comfortable sneakers and bring enough water.
- Avoid hiking during or right after rainy days..
- Start in the morning, when the weather is cooler.
- Respect nature: take your trash back with you and always stay on marked paths.
