11 Things to Do in Floripa on Rainy Days

What are the best places in Floripa to have fun when it rains?

October 27, 2025

You arrived in Floripa expecting sunny days, crystal-clear sea, and postcard-worthy hikes and… the weather changed?! Don’t worry! Take a deep breath and put away the beach towel, because even with rain, the “Magic Island” is still magical, it just slightly changes the plan!

And honestly, it can even be a good thing to have a few rainy days! That’s when you discover a more cultural side of Florianópolis, full of charm and hidden spots that often go unnoticed in the rush to the beaches. Ready to discover this other side of the island with me?

1. Cinema

You know those days when you just want an art film, a comfy seat, and a coffee before the screening? Then write this name down: Paradigma Cine Arte! It’s located in Corporate Park (SC-401) and is the kind of cinema that carefully curates each film, offering a more alternative selection. They even have a cult DVD and Blu-ray rental section in the lobby and show 35mm films in special screenings. Trust me (a film student), it’s totally worth it!

2. Museums

Rainy weather is the perfect excuse to explore museums, and in downtown Floripa there are two that are very close to each other (at Praça XV), making it easy to visit without getting too wet. On one side is the Cruz e Sousa Palace, that striking pink building, which houses the Museum of History of Santa Catarina, with historic halls full of stories and a very Instagrammable garden! On the other side is the Florianópolis Museum, located in the former prison, offering a more modern and interactive experience, with projections, historical objects, and curiosities about the island’s evolution.

Besides these two, the city also offers other great museum options for those who want to dive deeper into local culture, such as the Museum of the Santa Catarina School, the Victor Meirelles Museum, and the Sambaqui Man Museum.

3. Theater

How about swapping flip-flops for a theater seat? The Álvaro de Carvalho Theater (or TAC, as locals call it) is one of those places that already enchants you before the show even starts. Full of history and with a program that ranges from plays to concerts and dance performances. Just keep in mind that tickets are usually sold online, through the website indicated in each production’s announcement.

But Floripa doesn’t stop there! There are other major theaters that are also worth a visit. If Teatro Pedro Ivo is open, make sure to stop by, it’s definitely worth it! And don’t worry, later I’ll tell you all about Ademir Rosa Theater, another local favorite.

4. Shopping malls

I know… “shopping mall” might sound a bit generic, but on a rainy day it can be a real lifesaver. Especially if you’re with kids, need a more mainstream cinema, or just want a dry place with air conditioning and good food.

Main malls on the island:

    1. Beiramar Shopping (downtown)

    2. Floripa Shopping (on SC-401)

    3. Villa Romana Shopping (on Av. Madre Benvenuta)

Trust me: it might not be your dream activity, but it definitely saves the day!

5. Centro Integrado de Cultura

You know that kind of place that brings a little bit of everything together? CIC is exactly like that! It offers theater, exhibitions, cinema, museums, and even a nice café for a break. Located in Agronômica, it’s perfect for when the weather doesn’t help, because you can enjoy many different activities without leaving the same space. Theater tickets are usually sold online, and the cinema is most often free! Just make sure to arrive a bit early for some events to secure your spot.

6. Malls and galleries

The malls and galleries in Floripa are also a great option to escape the rain and enjoy a relaxed stroll. In Córrego Grande, SpotMarkt offers plenty of nice food options and a calm atmosphere (and even a kids’ area!). Over in Rio Tavares, there’s MULTI Open Shopping, the first open-air shopping mall in the region, with a cinema, clinics, stores, and more. In the downtown area, Armazém Rita Maria stands out: a lively food hall with several restaurants, a kids’ space, and a relaxed vibe that everyone enjoys. Besides that, there’s also Top Market, Pátio Milano, and other cool spots worth visiting. To wrap it up, Passeio Primavera, in Saco Grande, is an open-air space perfect for sitting down, grabbing a coffee, and relaxing, and it still works well even when the weather isn’t great, since there are plenty of covered areas.

7. Spa and relaxation

How about taking some time just for yourself? Spas are a great invitation to slow down, and the sound of the rain only makes everything even more relaxing.

Our recommendation: Vittae Spa e Estética, in Ingleses, is a wonderful option. It offers everything from a relaxing massage you truly deserve to full day spa experiences designed for couples, families, and even kids.

8. Games and food

If you’re looking for something different to do on rainy days, Pinball Space and Chef Na Van are great options. Pinball Space, in Coqueiros, is the city’s first pinball bar, full of vintage machines and neon lights. You can play a lot, enjoy some drinks, and soak up the atmosphere. Chef Na Van, in Trindade, is perfect for those who love craft burgers (there’s even a vegan option!) and board games to make the night more fun with friends. Both places are super entertaining ways to spend your time!

9. Gastronomy and culture

Besides the museums around Praça XV, downtown also offers another great combo: the Public Market and the Customs House, which are right next to each other and very easy to find. At the market, the atmosphere is lively, with the delicious smell of fried pastries, bars serving cold draft beer, stalls full of fresh fish, and small shops selling a bit of everything. At the Customs House, you can appreciate the work of local artisans, admire lace, ceramics, embroidery… it’s the kind of place that makes you want to take everything home!

10. Escape Room

Do you enjoy a challenge? Escape One, in Córrego Grande, is pure adrenaline! The concept is simple: you choose a themed room, gather a group (or go as a duo), and have 60 minutes to solve puzzles, find hidden clues, and try to escape before time runs out. It might seem like just a game… but it’s more like an interactive movie where you are the main character!

11. Sports

If sports are your thing, Floripa won’t disappoint! At Arena Beach Floripa, in Córrego Grande, you’ll find beach tennis, footvolley, and beach volleyball training sessions that can brighten up any day. And to explore other sports, Decathlon, in Saco Grande, is the perfect place. It’s a huge store that mixes shopping with a sports playground: you can test equipment before buying, try new sports, and leave feeling inspired to move even more.

To finish…

Nobody plans a trip expecting rain, right? But when it shows up, it can be just the little push we needed to explore a calmer, more creative, and full-of-surprises side of the city.

So if the weather turns, don’t get frustrated! Put on a raincoat (or not!), grab this guide, join our tours (Walking Tour and Bike Tour), and enjoy yourself. They are only canceled in cases of very heavy rain. That’s how you discover a quieter, more cultural and creative side that many people only get to see when the sky is cloudy. And honestly… it’s beautiful too.
